The standard plan is deliberately intensive enough for exam progress but spaced across the school week. It is not a promise that every learner can start from zero and finish an IGCSE language in 12 weeks; the diagnostic decides whether the learner needs exam preparation or a longer language foundation first.

Cambridge Foreign Language

Foreign-language routes such as French 0520, German 0525 and Spanish 0530 develop linked listening, reading, speaking and writing skills.
Cambridge uses broad real-life topic areas and expects practical communication, vocabulary range, grammar control and cultural awareness.
Current-syllabus past papers and specimen materials are used for paper technique.
First Language and Second Language syllabuses are treated separately.

Pearson Edexcel Modern Languages

International GCSE French 4FR1, German 4GN1, Spanish 4SP1 and Chinese 4CN1 use a three-paper model: Listening; Reading & Writing; Speaking.
The modern-language qualifications assess five broad topic areas and specified grammar/vocabulary expectations.
Speaking practice is built into the course rather than left until the end.
Arabic and Greek First Language qualifications require a different literacy-focused preparation plan.

Parents should first confirm the exact subject title and syllabus code with the school. Bring that information to the diagnostic so the course can match the current specification from day one.

Which IGCSE or O Level languages can Shield prepare in Bangladesh?

Based on current British Council Bangladesh 2026 exam-entry lists and Shield's teaching portfolio, this programme focuses on Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Greek, Italian, Spanish, Thai, Turkish and Urdu. Exact board and exam-series availability is checked before a learner is placed.

Is this a general language course or an exam-preparation course?

It is a specialised exam-preparation programme. The learner's board, syllabus code, school year and current language level are checked first. Training is then built around the skills, topics, question types and assessment demands of that specification.

How long is the standard programme?

The standard preparation plan is 12 weeks: two classes per week, three hours per class, approximately 72 guided hours. A diagnostic may show that a learner needs a shorter revision plan or a longer foundation plan.

Can a complete beginner prepare for a First Language paper?

Usually not through a short exam-preparation course. First Language papers are intended for learners who already have strong literacy in that language. Shield checks this before enrolment and will recommend foundation study first when needed.

Do Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel language exams use the same format?

No. The exact structure depends on the qualification. Cambridge foreign-language routes commonly assess listening, reading, speaking and writing; Pearson International GCSE French, German, Spanish and Chinese use Listening, Reading & Writing, and Speaking papers. First-language qualifications follow different assessment structures.

Can students from Glenrich, Scholastica, South Breeze or Aga Khan Academy Dhaka join?

Yes. Shield is an independent language academy, so learners from any school may apply. We do not assume the student's board from the school name; parents should bring the current syllabus code or school subject information so the preparation can be matched correctly.

Does Shield register students for the official exam?

Shield provides training and preparation. Official examination entry, fees, speaking arrangements and venue allocation are handled by the learner's school, British Council Bangladesh and/or the relevant examination system. We help families understand which syllabus they are preparing for, but we do not present ourselves as the awarding body or exam centre.

Do students get books, apps and mock-exam support?

The programme can combine trainer-led classes with Shield books/materials, software and app-based drills, audio practice, speaking rehearsal, writing correction and timed mock work. The exact material pack is selected for the learner's language and syllabus.
