This Privacy Policy explains how Shield Language Academy (“Shield”, “we”, “our”, “us”) may collect, use, store, disclose and protect personal data when you use dhakalanguage.com, contact us, register for a course, use our learning services, purchase books or software access, communicate through messaging platforms, or otherwise interact with the academy.

Information we may collect
Depending on how you interact with Shield, we may collect information you provide directly, such as your name, phone number, email address, course or language interest, level, enrolment details, billing or transaction information, messages, support requests, feedback, and information needed to provide a requested service. We may also receive limited technical information generated when you use the website, such as IP address, browser or device information, approximate location derived from IP, pages viewed, referral source, and basic usage or security logs.

Payment information
Payments may be handled through banks, mobile financial services, payment gateways or other third-party payment providers. Those providers may process payment credentials under their own privacy and security terms. Shield may receive transaction confirmation, payer details, invoice information or other limited records needed for enrolment, accounting, refunds, dispute handling and support. Do not send full card numbers, PINs, passwords or one-time passcodes through ordinary forms, email or chat.

How we use personal data
We may use personal data to respond to enquiries; assess course or service requests; create and manage enrolments; provide classes, books, audio, software or digital access; communicate schedules and service updates; provide learner support; process or reconcile payments; maintain attendance and academic records where appropriate; improve our website, teaching materials and services; prevent fraud, abuse or security incidents; comply with legal or accounting obligations; and send marketing communications when permitted by law or when you have chosen to receive them.

Legal basis and applicable law
Where applicable law requires a lawful basis, we process personal data on one or more appropriate grounds, such as your consent, steps requested by you before entering into a service arrangement, performance of a contract or enrolment, compliance with legal obligations, protection of legitimate organisational or security interests, or another basis permitted by law. Shield aims to handle personal data in accordance with applicable law in Bangladesh, including the Personal Data Protection Act, 2026, where it applies to our activities.

When we may share information
Shield does not sell personal data for monetary consideration. We may disclose limited information to service providers or contractors who help us operate the website, communicate with learners, deliver digital services, process payments, maintain records, provide technical support, prevent fraud or perform other necessary functions. We may also disclose information when required by law, court order, lawful government request, or when reasonably necessary to protect rights, safety, security or prevent misuse. Where possible, we expect service providers to use information only for the work they perform for Shield.

International processing and data transfers
Some technology providers used by the website or academy may operate infrastructure outside Bangladesh. As a result, information may be processed or stored in another country. Where applicable law imposes requirements on cross-border transfers, we will take reasonable steps to use an appropriate transfer mechanism, contractual safeguard, consent process or other lawful basis.

Data retention
We keep personal data only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including course administration, learner support, accounting, tax or legal recordkeeping, security, dispute resolution, and enforcement of agreements. Retention periods can vary by record type. When information is no longer required, we may delete, anonymise or securely archive it, subject to lawful retention requirements and routine backup cycles.

We use reasonable administrative, technical and organisational safeguards intended to protect personal data from unauthorised access, misuse, alteration, loss or disclosure. No website, transmission method or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure. You should also protect your own account credentials, device access and one-time verification codes.

Marketing communications
If you receive promotional email, SMS or other marketing communication from Shield, you may ask us to stop sending it. Service-related messages—such as class schedules, payment confirmations, access notices or important administrative updates—may still be sent when necessary to provide the service you requested.

Children and younger learners
Shield offers some learning programmes that may be used by children or teenagers. Where a learner is a minor, we may need to communicate with a parent, guardian or other authorised adult and may collect information necessary to provide the learning service, maintain safety, administer enrolment or communicate about the learner. We do not intentionally seek unnecessary sensitive information about children. Parents or guardians may contact us about a minor's personal data and request appropriate action subject to applicable law.
