Germany Opportunity Card from Bangladesh.
The Chancenkarte is not a 70/100 competition, not a four-year open work permit and not automatic permanent residence. It is a German residence route for job search or certain recognition-related opportunities. In 2026 there are two main access routes: recognised skilled worker, or an eligible qualification + language prerequisite + at least six points.

Before you apply
The Opportunity Card has a specific legal structure. Eligibility depends on your qualification route, language evidence, points where applicable, financial proof and the documents accepted by the German authorities. Use the current rules below rather than informal scoring tables or social-media summaries.
01 / FIRST THINGS FIRST
Understand the structure before you calculate anything.
A few distinctions make the rest of the process much easier to understand.
“You need 70 out of 100 points.”
The official points route requires at least 6 points after the mandatory qualification and language prerequisites are satisfied.
There are two access routes.
Fully recognised skilled workers can use the non-points route. Others may qualify through an eligible foreign qualification + language + points.
“The initial card is normally valid for four years.”
The initial job-search Opportunity Card is generally issued for up to 12 months.
German is more valuable than its points alone.
A1 may satisfy the points-route language prerequisite, but German employers, interviews and daily job search can demand far more practical German.
“A job offer gives points.”
A job offer is not a points category. A qualifying part-time employment contract can, however, contribute to financial proof under the Dhaka process.
You can work while searching—but with limits.
Up to 20 hours/week total secondary employment plus trial work of up to two weeks per employer for the permitted job-search purposes.

The points system applies only to one of the two main routes.

Financial proof is separate from the points calculation.
You still need to show that your living costs are covered for the planned stay.
Blocked account
Current Dhaka checklist: at least €1,091 per month, plus sufficient funds for the return flight.
Declaration of commitment
A formal Verpflichtungserklärung under German residence law can be used where applicable.
Existing part-time contract
The German Embassy Dhaka says an existing permitted work contract can count toward proof of sufficient means; submit the employment contract and Declaration of Employment documentation as requested.
Health insurance
Dhaka requires proof covering the stay; its checklist describes either suitable private German incoming insurance or public German health-insurance evidence with initial travel insurance.
06 / WHAT YOU CAN DO
Work rights while you are searching for a job.
Up to 12 months initially
The initial search Opportunity Card is issued for a maximum of one year. If you cannot prove finances for the full period, it may be issued for a shorter duration.
Part-time work
You may hold one or more permitted secondary jobs totalling up to 20 hours per week during the search period.
Trial work per employer
Trial work can be done for up to two weeks per employer when aimed at qualified employment, vocational training or an appropriate qualification measure.
Once you find qualified work: the search card itself is not the final full-time work permit. You normally apply to the competent foreigners authority for the appropriate employment residence title, such as an EU Blue Card, qualified-professional permit, professionally experienced worker route or another suitable title. An Opportunity Card extension of up to two years can exist in individual cases where qualified employment is found but another employment title is not available.
07 / BANGLADESH APPLICATION
Applying from Bangladesh
The German Embassy Dhaka publishes the Bangladesh-specific application requirements and currently states a minimum processing time of approximately six weeks.

The job-search period is more useful when your target occupations, application documents and interview language are ready in advance.
Choose target occupations before the visa
Map your formal qualification and experience to actual German job titles. Search by German occupational titles, not only English equivalents.
Prepare a German-market application
Use a clean CV, relevant qualification proof and tailored cover/application language. Do not exaggerate your German; interviews expose it immediately.
Start applying from Bangladesh
The Opportunity Card is optional, not mandatory. The official portal itself notes that you can search from your home country and use another work visa if you obtain suitable qualified employment.
Build interview German
Practise introductions, professional history, explaining projects, strengths, availability, salary discussion and asking intelligent questions about the role.
Use the 20 hours strategically
A permitted part-time job can support finances and exposure, but it should not distract from the main purpose: finding qualified employment or recognition-related work.
Track applications like a project
Company, role, date, language used, recruiter, response, interview stage and follow-up date. Twelve months disappears quickly without a pipeline.

How many points do I need?+
The points route needs at least 6 points. But you first need the eligible formal qualification and at least German A1 or English B2. If you qualify as a recognised skilled worker, you do not use the six-point system.
