1. Decide What to Study in Japan
Choose between Japanese Language School, Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD. Japanese Language Schools are the most popular first step. Universities include Tokyo University, Kyoto University, Osaka University, etc.
2. Learn Basic Japanese Language (N5–N3)
Most programs require Japanese language knowledge. Prepare for JLPT N5 to N3. Language proficiency is essential for both language school and university.
3. Prepare Required Documents
  • Valid Passport
  • SSC & HSC Certificate + Transcript
  • IELTS (optional for English programs)
  • Japanese language certificate (JLPT/NAT)
  • Bank Statement (Minimum 20–25 lakh BDT)
  • Affidavit/Sponsorship Letter
4. Apply to Japanese Language School or University
For Japanese Language School (April/October intake), apply through trusted agencies or school websites. For universities, check scholarship options (like MEXT) and apply online.
5. Receive COE (Certificate of Eligibility)
Once accepted, the school will apply for the Certificate of Eligibility (COE) from the Japanese Immigration Bureau. It takes 6–8 weeks.
6. Apply for Japan Student Visa in Dhaka
Submit the following to the Japanese Embassy in Dhaka:

  • COE + Admission Letter
  • Passport
  • Photo (as per requirement)
  • Financial Documents
Visa fee: BDT 650 | Processing time: 5–7 working days.
7. Book Flight and Arrange Accommodation

8. Arrive in Japan and Register
On arrival, get your Zairyū Card (Resident Card) from airport immigration. Register your address at the city office within 14 days. Also enroll in National Health Insurance.
9. Attend Classes & Work Part-Time
Start your studies. You can apply for a part-time work permit (up to 28 hours/week). Most students work in restaurants, convenience stores, or cleaning jobs.
